A further criticism is that the findings from meta-analysis are based on historical claims - that is, they are based on "past" studies, and the future is not so bound by what worked yesterday. It is critical to always appreciate that the meta-analyses in this book are indeed historical - that is what a research review is: a synthesis of published studies.The degree to which these past studies influence todays or tomorrows schools is an interpretative issue for the reader.
